Leading Capital Markets Attorney Joins Cooley in New York
New York – July 22, 2010 – Cooley LLP announced that Ian B. Blumenstein has joined the firm as a partner. Blumenstein, a leading corporate finance and high-yield debt practitioner, was previously a partner in the New York office of Proskauer Rose LLP. He will be resident in Cooley's New York office.
Blumenstein advises issuers and underwriters in high-yield debt financings and in other debt and equity capital markets transactions. Throughout his career he has represented many of the world's top investment banks including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Jefferies & Company, Morgan Stanley and UBS. Prior to joining Proskauer, Blumenstein was a partner in the New York office of Latham & Watkins LLP and a Managing Director, High Yield Capital Markets, of BancBoston Robertson Stephens Inc.
"Cooley has a leading capital markets practice that is dominant in the technology and life sciences sectors," said Blumenstein. "I look forward to helping grow the franchise and enhancing the firm's ties with the investment banking communities in New York and nationwide."
"Ian will be a tremendous boost to our capital markets practice and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm," said Joe Conroy, Cooley's chief executive officer. "In 2010, we have attracted to the firm several lateral partners who are leaders in their respective fields of practice. Ian is the most recent addition, and we are confident that he will not be the last this year."
Cooley's leadership in capital markets transactions spans the range of equity and debt financings for emerging, high-growth technology and life sciences companies and the investment banks that advise such companies. In the first half of 2010, Cooley represented issuers and investment banks in 30 public offerings and in 2009 ranked fourth nationally in issuer-side follow-on public offerings. Cooley is consistently a leading law firm for issuer-side initial public offerings (IPOs) as evidenced by a top-three ranking in issuer-side IPOs during the last decade. In addition, Cooley helps issuers adapt to changing market conditions with alternative strategies, including private investment in public entity (PIPE) offerings, and in 2009 was ranked second nationally among law firms advising issuers in PIPEs.
Blumenstein earned his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and his A.B. with high honors in Political Science and English from the University of Michigan.
