Cooley San Diego Named "Law Firm of the Year" by Pro Bono Organization

San Diego, Calif – Sept. 18, 2009 – Cooley Godward Kronish has been named the "Law Firm of the Year" by the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP). The Firm was recognized at the annual "Justice for All" dinner held Sept. 17.

Cooley attorneys logged more than 3,200 hours on behalf of the SDVLP handling asylum cases, domestic violence restraining order matters, Special Juvenile Immigration Status matters, civil rights matters, Social Security benefits matters and others.

"It has been our pleasure and honor to so closely partner with the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program on so many meaningful cases and to provide the much needed access to justice for those individuals who are in the most need in our community and so well served by SDVLP" said Tony Stiegler, co-chair of the firm's pro bono practice and partner in the San Diego office. "This recognition underscores a firmwide commitment to pro bono work that is evident in the many thousands of hours contributed back to our communities every year by Cooley lawyers and paralegals."

The SDVLP is supported by grants and service contracts from public and private agencies, foundations and professional organizations, as well as contributions from businesses, corporations, law firms and individuals. Each year, the organization assists more than 6,500 clients, among them are homeless, abused children, domestic violence victims, elder abuse victims, veterans, immigrants and HIV/AIDS sufferers.
