Emily Wagner, Partner

Emily W. Wagner is a Partner in the Patent Counseling & Prosecution practice group and a member of the firm's Litigation Department.  She joined Cooley in 2011 and is resident in the Seattle office.

Ms. Wagner has extensive experience counseling clients in the life sciences and clean energy industries with respect to developing patent and market exclusivity strategies.  Her practice encompasses the representation of private and public companies, investors, universities and non-profit research institutions.  She specializes in pharmaceutical and chemical patent matters, including small molecule therapeutics, polymer chemistry, protein and nucleic acid chemistry, drug formulations, manufacturing processes, medical devices, and clean energy technologies.  Her expertise includes strategic management of intellectual property portfolios, U.S. and international patent procurement, intellectual property due diligence reviews, freedom to operate and patentability analyses, and invalidity and non-infringement opinions.  In addition, she regularly advises clients regarding intellectual property issues related to potential investments, acquisitions, licensing transactions, partnering opportunities and litigation matters.

Prior to joining Cooley, Ms. Wagner was a Partner in the Biotechnology and Chemistry practice group at Seed Intellectual Property Law Group PLLC.  Before focusing her practice on intellectual property matters, Ms. Wagner was an attorney with Venture Law Group where she represented emerging growth technology companies and venture capital firms in a wide variety of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, public offerings and technology licensing, as well as general corporate matters.

Ms. Wagner received a J.D. from Harvard Law School.  Prior to law school, she received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Bowdoin College where she conducted research in the field of organometallic chemistry.  Ms. Wagner is admitted to the Washington State Bar and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
