Gordon H. Empey is a partner in the Cooley Business department and a member of the Emerging Companies practice group. He joined the Firm in 2008.
Mr. Empey's practice focuses on emerging technology, life sciences and healthcare companies and both venture capital and private equity firms. He represents clients in a wide range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, corporate partnerships, commercial agreements and general corporate matters.
From 2004 to 2007, Mr. Empey served as Vice President & General Counsel of Radiant Research. While at Radiant Research, Mr. Empey managed legal affairs for the clinical research company, including mergers and acquisitions, budgets and contracts, litigation, risk management and real estate. Previously, Mr. Empey was with Venture Law Group and Heller Ehrman LLP.
Prior to beginning his corporate law career, Mr. Empey served as an officer in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1994 to 1998.
Mr. Empey earned his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in History from Colgate University, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Empey is admitted to practice in California and Washington.
